Dr. Heide Marie Roth

After finishing her PhD in the laboratory of Prof. Kisker at the Rudolf Virchow Center in Würzburg, Dr. Heide Marie Roth applied for positions in the industry and is now working for the company “Nanotemper Technologies”. This company, located in Munich, develops MST machines which can be utilized for Thermophoresis measurements. It is a highly innovative technique which was invented by the two founders of “Nanotemper Technologies”. During the experiments, a microscale temperature gradient induced by laser light is used to study the movement of particles in solution. Any changes in their structure or conformation, e.g. by interaction with a binding partner, will lead to a differential movement from which binding affinities can be calculated.

At the moment this start-up company is about to establish the emerging technique in the field of biomedical research. Dr. Roth´s task in this process is to support the customers with their samples and MST experiments.

Dr. Leif Schröder

Dr. Leif Schröder is a medical physicist and leader of the research group “Molecular imaging” at the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP) in Berlin. He and his group are working on the development of Xenon biosensors which highly increase the significance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Hence, alterations in cell structures are much easier to observe what becomes essentially important in detection of tumors with high sensitivity. To explore the potential of these novel contrast agents, he gained a 5 years starting grant by the European Research Council (BiosensorImaging, GA No. 242710). He is a successful scientist who was awarded with the Emmy-Noether research fellowship and different prices, e.g. the Philips Research Prize for applied physics. Moreover, he is an experienced networker since he is member of several international organizations.

Clara Sattler de Sousa e Brito

"Clara Sattler de Sousa e Brito is a Patent Attorney with a specialization in biotechnological inventions. Following her studies of physics, philosophy and law and research activities at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law, Germany and Yale Law School, USA, she is now a partner at the patent law firm Liermann-Castell. At the center of her research are problems in the intersecting areas of law, ethics and modern technologies, in particular life sciences (e.g. synthetic biology or stem cells)."

Dr. Thomas Hengl

Dr. Thomas Hengl completed his PhD in biology in the Department of Molecular Physiology at the University of Heidelberg. In 2011, he joined the Department of Research and Development at Merz Pharmaceuticals, a privately-owned, global specialty pharmaceutical company that is headquartered in Frankfurt am Main. Dr. Hengl is involved in the early preclinical development of new aesthetic and dermatological products. His current focus is the creation of innovative product concepts and the development of in vitro cell-culture-based assays for proof of mechanism studies. Dr. Hengl enjoys working within a global interdisciplinary environment, and his work with Merz has provided him with a number of opportunities to gain both intercultural and scientific experience.
